Benefits Of Gelatin

Gelatin is a thickening agent, which is colorless, tasteless, and odorless in nature. When gelatin is dissolved in hot water, followed by cooling it forms a jelly. Chemically defined it is a combination of proteins and is extracted from collagen found in animals through a process called hydrolysis. Gelatin is usually made from collagen found in beef, veal bones, tendons, cartilage, and other body tissues. Earlier used as a commercial product gelatin is now used as a nutritional supplement for maintaining the health of bones and joint. The many benefits of gelatin to the human body include:

Improves body metabolism.
Intake of gelatin containing supplements aids in improving the body metabolism. It enhances then metabolism thus making a person healthy.

Beneficial for athletes.
Consumption of gelatin as a supplement helps to improve muscle growth and is thus quite beneficial to athletes.

Beneficial to the skin.
Gelatin is obtained by the hydrolysis of collagen protein- a substance that constitutes about thirty three percent of our bodies and makes the skin firm and smooth. Intake of collagen in form of supplements is thus quite beneficial for the skin. Although there are many creams available in the market that contain gelatin and claim to make the skin beautiful, however, gelatin is extremely effective when consumed through food or supplements.

Beneficial to hair.
Intake of gelatin supplements helps in strengthening the hair making them shiny and healthy.

Beneficial to the nails.
Gelatin supplements provide strength to the nails, so that they don’t break easily.

Beneficial to the bones.
The high content of amino acids glycoprotein and proline makes gelatin excellent for the bones. Joint pains are a common occurrence because of the deficiency of these amino acids. Intake of gelatin as supplements allows it to reach the connective tissues through the blood. Addition of just ten grams of gelatin as a supplement to your diet is sufficient to relieve joint pain.

Makes you feel full.
Regular intake of some amounts of gelatin gives you a feeling of fullness and contentment.

Gelatin is highly nutritious and should be a part of your daily diets if you wish to stay healthy and look young. Gelatin can be used as a thickening agent in ice creams, desserts, jellies and cream cheese, yogurt, marshmallows, aspic, gummy bears, and margarine. Apart from foods and supplements, gelatin is also used in preparing cosmetics and pharmaceuticals, particularly those related to skin. While using gelatin for cooking purposes, make sure not to pour it directly into a boiling liquid, since it loses its gelatinous property.
