Benefits of SSD

SSD is the acronym for solid state drive used for permanent data storage. Unlike tradition storage drives, it has no movable parts. However, it works the same way as compared to memory card, or a USB stick, but is designed specifically to store data permanently.

1. Faster access

The traditional disk storage has to constantly spin to work. Also, it requires the head (a device that read information on the hard drive) to move to where the information is stored. The SSD on the other hand doesn’t have these requirements, therefore works more efficiently.

2. Resilient

Since an SSD lacks moving parts, it can withstand extreme temperatures and bumps or knocks. It is therefore tougher compared to traditional hard disks. Moreover, it is quieter than the average drives, thereby can help in cooling fans found in notebooks.

3. Less defragmentation

Unlike common hard disks which often require constant defragmentation (where data is scattered on the disk), the speed at which you access the information is not affected whatsoever when you use the SSD disk. Furthermore, SSD requires less energy as compared to the traditional hard drive.

4. Lighter

SSDs are sometimes lighter and smaller as compared to the traditional hard disk, although this advantage is noticed with high-capacity hard drives. Additionally, SSD handles multiple tasks so you can load games and crop pictures all at the same time with amazing speeds.

5. Storage capacity

Because SSDs are still undergoing modifications, the largest size is expected to be 128 GB. Although most people use a laptop for its convenience, the capacity is not as large as that of traditional hard disks which often come in larger sizes.

6. Carry it with you anywhere

If you want to work outside office walls, take it with you as it is designed to handle extreme vibration and temperature.

SSDs are considerably expensive than traditional hard drives. Nevertheless, prices are expected to drop in the coming days.
