Benefits of Palm Sugar

Sugar extracted from palm trees is known as palm sugar. There are various types of palm trees all which are tapped for their sugar. Palm sugar can also be extracted from date, coconut and palmyra palms. This sugar is extensively used in Asia especially in the southeast region and it has several other names such as gur or jiggery. The following are its benefits:-

1. Natural sweetener
Palm sugar is nutrient rich, has low glycemic crystalline that tastes, looks, melts and dissolves almost the same way sugar does. It has a number of minerals, vitamins and phytonutrients including zinc, potassium and vitamins. It is never bleached or refined. This leaves all its nutrients still intact making it a favored sweetener among many. It has a very rich taste similar to that of caramel or butterscotch and doesn’t have an after taste.
