Since nuts have a high fat content, it is only natural to believe that their consumption would probably lead to increase in weight. On the other hand, most studies conducted did not find this belief to be accurate. In fact, most studies found that there was no substantial increase in weight in people who regularly consumed nuts. This is because the actual high fat content of nuts is not fully absorbed during digestion. Moreover, nuts have high fiber content and thus they promote satiety. For that reason, it prevents people from overeating.

Nuts are also good sources of essential fatty acids that are required for proper functioning of the body. These fatty acids are useful in improving cognitive function, reducing inflammatory effects, protecting the heart and controlling eczema and asthma. The antioxidant properties of nuts enhance the immune system and also provide cancer-fighting properties.
However, nuts have several shortcomings also. For example, they can easily irritate the intestinal and stomach lining. This can lead to loose stools and stomach upsets.
