Benefits of ISDN

Benefits of ISDN

ISDN or Integrated Services Digital Network refers to a standard in communications’ that allow for instant data delivery through a network beyond the standard way of’ passing through the telephone network circuits. Through the ISDN, various data’ including voice, video, and audio can be digitally transferred from one point in a’ network to another in a single line. The old telephone circuit system only allowed’ one kind of data per line but with ISDN, all data types are handled using one line.’ Voice data for example can be digitally transmitted along with other types of data’ like video. Implementing the ISDN standard can result to various benefits including’ the following:

1. Faster data transfer

The lines involved in ISDN basically provides two channels and this will literally’ translate to faster data transfer rates. This explains the fact that much of the’ Internet, especially email, relies on ISDN in transferring of various files across the
network.

2. Multiple channel functionality

ISDN lines also allow for multiple channels with data transmission done’ simultaneously. This means that a single ISDN line will allow one to surf the internet’ while receiving a phone call for example. Sending a fax to a remote location in the
network is also possible even if one is connected to the company’s internal network.’ With this capability, ISDN basically provides more efficiency and productivity to the workplace.

3. Better signal quality

The ISDN standard also runs on digital lines which provide a better reception quality’ when compared to the older analog-based telephone network. Voice calls are clearer’ with less static while internet connections will also have less interference.

Despite the costlier implementation of ISDN, its advantages and benefits still’ outweigh the cost. In the long term, companies will still be able to reap the benefits’ of ISDN in terms of better productivity figures and improved network capabilities.
