Benefits of HRT
Benefits of HRT
Hormone replacement therapy or HRT refers to a treatment method that involves providing injecting patients with hormones. The reason for HRT is either for supplementing an insufficient amount of natural hormones, or for substituting other hormones. The advantages of HRT include controlling symptoms of menopause and also preventing heart complications.
1. Prevents heart disease
Heart complications are a leading cause of death in both women and men. Before menopause, women have a lesser risk of getting heart disease than men. However, after menopause, women have a higher risk of getting heart issues. Changes in levels of estrogen due to menopause are usually accompanied with chances in fat levels inside the body. These changes and a resultant cholesterol increase are considered as major factors that contribute to atherosclerosis and heart attacks. HRT corrects these changes through lowering LDL cholesterol and increasing HDL cholesterol in blood. It also helps keep the blood vessels clear and open at all times.
2. Controls menopause symptoms
During menopause, the body usually slows down its estrogen production. This may cause the onset of various uncomfortable symptoms like hot flashes, vaginal dryness, night sweats and skin changes. Other menopause symptoms include sleep disruption and mood swings. Since these symptoms occur due a lack of estrogen, HRT provides enough estrogen and thus eliminates the problems. Hence, all women currently undergoing menopause should consider HRT.
3. Prevents osteoporosis
HRT can also assist women against developing osteoporosis, an ailment that affects bone health, making bones more brittle and weaker. Women who start taking HRT after menopause usually experience lesser bone fractures compared to those who don’t take estrogen. Vitamin D and calcium are crucial companions to HRT for both treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. However, HRT should be used for several years to prevent bone fractures.
HRT also has other benefits like improving mental function and preventing memory loss. Studies have clearly shown that estrogen protects against memory loss, thus improving learning and concentration.Benefits of HRT
