Drink up to 8 glasses of water a day – a commonly known and even more commonly ignored aspect of healthy living. Whenever we think of health, diet, or recuperating from illness, we rarely think of the significant role of water consumption. Instead we think of diet, healthy foods, miracle foods, etc. More than all this, drinking sufficient quantity of water everyday has a vast number of health benefits that we often ignore.

1.Elixir of life:

Water is a most essential component of any living creature. And this applies even to human beings. Every part of the human body is made up of cells. In fact, protoplasm the basic component of a cell is made of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, etc combined with water. Water is essential for transporting various substances within the human body. Cells exchange elements through a process called electrolyses. In the absence of water, this process cannot happen and the cells will become dry and die. Thus water is essential to keep our cells hydrated, to maintain the electrochemical balance in our bodies and to help us stay alive.

Consuming sufficient quantity of water is believed to prevent cardiovascular problems. Water keeps the body hydrated and prevents the arteries, both in heart and brain, from getting clogged. Consuming water also prevents brain damage. The human brain is made up of 85% of water and it is extremely sensitive to water loss. In fact, it cannot tolerate even a percentage of water loss for a long duration. Doing so will have an impact on the development and functioning of the brain. Dehydration of the brain can cause damage to the blood vessels leading to bleeding and plaques. This in turn will lead to neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and Alzheimer’s disease.

5.Ensures high-energy levels and maintains mental faculties:

Water ensures high-energy levels by flushing out toxins from the body and ensuring that all organs perform optimally and efficiently. Further, a good body leads to a good mind ensuring that you are energetic and active. Consumption of water helps prevent depression by ensuring that the human body automatically replenishes neurotransmitter serotonin. It also prevents sleep disorders by producing the sleep regulator melatonin.

6.Increases metabolism and aids digestion:

All functions in the human body require water for its efficient functioning. Therefore consuming lots of water will enable these functions to perform quickly and effectively. This would ensure higher metabolism. In fact, a well hydrated body is believed to have higher metabolism and higher metabolism burns calories faster. Thus it not only boosts our energy levels but also helps in weight reduction or weight management. Also increased intake of water ensures smooth digestion and bowel movement, resulting in relief from constipation and other digestive disorders.

The human skin is made up of 90% water. Therefore, water is highly essential to maintain a healthy, young-looking skin. Water helps to replenish skin cells, moisturize the skin, and maintain and increase the elasticity of the skin. Thus, properly hydrated skin is the only way to healthier, younger-looking skin.

The benefits of drinking water are endless. Water is the most essential aspect for all living beings, man is no exception.     didn’t know about the benefits of drinking water and how it keeps you
    healthy, I didn’t care either but as I got older and get educated
    about the essential things of life. I have started drinking
    sufficient water and since then I feel always rejuvenated and my skin
    has changed to as close to perfect as it can.
