Since traditional times we have been hearing and reading that breast milk is the best for the baby. Several researches have been carried out in this direction and these have proved the significance of breast feeding in the life of the newly born child and the mother-child relationship. But in this world of competition where women have joined shoulders with men in holding the financial responsibilities of the house it is very difficult to bring up a child solely on the basis of breast milk. Bottle feeding is the best solution for it. Bottle feeding offers a number of benefits for both the mother and the child. These include:

1.No need for frequent feeds.
The formula milk or bottle milk is considered to be heavy. It is not as easily digested in the body of the child as the less dense and light breast milk. So a child who is fed with bottle milk will feel hungry less frequently and will surely be fed at large intervals of time. This offers ease to the mother and the babyÂ’ feels satisfied for long periods of time. This lengthens the time interval between feedings.

2.Knowledge about the quantity of milk taken.

In case of bottle-feeding, the mother knows the exact amount of milk consumed by the baby. This gives her the satisfaction that her child had consumed the required quantities of milk.

3.Helps to reduce anemia among children.
Infant formulas manufactured for bottle feeding are fortified with sufficient quantities of iron and other minerals. These help to reduce prevalence of anemia in infants.

4.Quick and speedy normalcy to sex-life.
The birth of a child brings with it a lot of responsibilities. Apart from it, a lot of hormonal changes take place in the mother’s body. The changes associated with lactation make the process of lovemaking difficult for mothers. Breast feeding mothers have a dry vagina, sore nipples and breasts that are leaking because of the continuous production of milk till the child feeds on it. These conditions are not favorable to lovemaking. Bottle feeding mothers do not suffer with these problems as once the child stops feeding on mother’s milk all these conditions automatically improve and she can enjoy her sex life.

5.Care free life of bottle feeding mothers.

Breast feeding mothers can choose any method of contraception for birth control. Intake of pills will not harm the child in case of bottle feeding mothers. They can even resort to strict dieting schedules because bottle feeding mothers provide nourishment to their children through infant formulas.

So, those who are bringing up their children on infant formulas need not feel guilty. Remember that there are many benefits for feeding the baby through a bottle. Just think that having a baby is not an end to life, but the beginning of a new life. So as a mother you too have the right to live and enjoy.

  1. I just want to say that I think the person that addressed all of the “issues” failed to consider some other possibilities. Some of us bottle feeding mothers didn’t get to make a choice as to how we fed our children. Personally, I suffered from a spinal leak after a spinal block (because of mandatory csection) and was not physically able to hold and breastfeed my child. Also, I couldn’t sit up much and was put on 100% bed rest after delivery so I wasn’t able to pump often enough to establish production. Though I have tried since being released from the hospital, my production has not increased. I have also developed an infection in my bladder. The treatment available is not for breastfeeding mothers. In order to insure that I will be able to care for my child in the future, I must turn to bottle feeding. For me NOT to make that choice would be purely selfish and result in harm to my child. I do agree, in MOST cases breastfeeding is best…but that isn’t ALWAYS the truth.
